In the Balkans, male Witches mostly used brooms from the threshing floor, that very broom represents tge fertility of the whole village, city, or region and if another male Witch from another village, stole the broom, he stole the whole fertility of the region, according to folktales and legend.
Because the broom was specifically used for collecting threshed wheat gave it its magical properties, the constant use for a single purpose, focus and dedication of threshing wheat for food imbued it and weaved the magic of the Harvest in the broom.
Not only if the male Witch guarding lost the broom, the whole village lost its fertility, he could also loose his health, sometimes he would be exiled from the community or in some tales even die. While this is not the only type of broom used by male Witches, it was mostly used by male Witches.
